Chilled Out & Filled Up:  Brunch at Club Passim

passimbrunch-2I haven’t been to Club Passim in a very long time.  So much has changed and yet so much has remained the same.  The space has the same feel, the music is still mellow and wonderful (neither too loud nor just background music).  What is new is the space is slightly larger than I remember and the food is a whole new experience.  Beloved Veggie Galaxy has a new home in Central Square and Club Passim has a kitchen and menu of its own.

The dinner menu looks great. I have my eyes on the bacon-wrapped goat cheese stuffed dates, stuffed avocado, the kale and arugula salad, the pasta and the burgers.  I was invited recently with the New England Food Bloggers to experience the Live Music Brunch at Club Passim and I am looking forward to going back soon because at least two, okay three, well maybe four… of the dishes were completely addictive. Club Passim also has a kids live music brunch menu too. On the kids’ menu are eggs, French toast and an egg sandwich with all the fixings.

You will find familiar brunch items from breakfast sausage and pancakes to French toast and egg sandwiches.  Nothing is basic though.  The Chiang Mai breakfast sausage is something I will order every single time I walk through the door no matter what else I order.  It is so full of flavour and spice.  It’s my dream breakfast sausage and comes in patty form. There are two different Eggs Benedict on the menu. The black bean benny and the avocado benny.  The avocado eggs Benedict, pictured above is a pair of poached eggs, avocado, cherry tomato, herbs and olive oil served on a black pepper biscuit.

Breakfast sandwich with the most incredible bacon served with fresh fruit.

I ordered the Passim breakfast sandwich, pictured above, it is an over-easy egg, hash browns (in the sandwich!!), cheddar, VT bacon, and a chipotle aioli on a griddled brioche.  I’m not a huge fan of chipotle or mayonnaise so I skipped the sauce and it was still delicious!

I recommend coming with friends and getting an order of the BKK street bread to share while you sip on your coffees and peruse the menu.

This street food from Bangkok is simply delicious.

The BKK street bread takes you back to when you were a kid and your mom made you buttered toast sprinkled with cinnamon (okay my mom never made me that but my husband makes it for our kids). This bread has no cinnamon but it has something even better the pure simple taste of caramelized sugar and butter.

I love the heat and flavour of the Chiang Mai sausage.  I will order this every time.  These two dishes: BKK Street Bread, and the Chiang Mai Sausage (the sausage is served with an herb sour cream to balance the heat) in addition to the music and setting really make Club Passim’s brunch something really special.

For the Vegan crew there is a Tofu scramble and the additional option of gluten-free bread if needed.

Club Passim is located in Harvard Square.  Live music accompanies brunch from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
